ABOUT JDA
Jacksonville Dietetic Association (JDA)

We are an organization of Registered Dietitians, Dietetic Technicians, and Dietetic Students. Our mission
is to provide expert nutrition education and support to its members and the community. JDA meets 4 to 5
times per year with opportunities for continuing education credits at each meeting.

JDA is an affiliate of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly ADA) and the Florida Dietetic
Association (FDA) - district 4 serving Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. Johns and Union counties in
Northeast Florida.
2013-2014 BOARD OFFICERS
President: Meridith Smith, MS, RD, LD/N, CDE
Meridith currently works at UF & Shands as the Outpatient Diabetes Education
Program Coordinator and provides medical nutrition therapy at UF & Shands
Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism practice. Meridith earned her
BS in Dietetics from Florida International University in Miami, and her Master's in
Health Science from UNF. She thoroughly enjoys providing nutrition information
through various media outlets to help spread the word and promote healthy
eating and it’s benefits!
Meridith Hughes Smith
President-Elect: Jill McCann, MSH, RD, LD/N
Jill is an RD specializing in eating disorders, sports nutrition, weight management,
wellness and oncology. She received her BS and MS in Health Science from UNF
and has had over ten years of experience in the fitness industry as a Group
Fitness Instructor and Personal Trainer. Jill is currently in private practice with
Preferred Nutrition and is also the co-founder and Director of Beaded Star Eating
Disorder Recovery Center, where she works to help those struggling with eating
disorders and body image distortions to renew hope and balance within their lives
and to restore their relationship with food.
Jill McCann
Treasurer: Michelle Lynch, MS, RD, LD/N
Michelle earned her Masters of Science in Health from UNF in 2008. She
specializes in renal nutrition and currently works with in-center hemodialysis,
outpatient peritoneal and home-hemodialysis patients at DaVita Dialysis.
Michelle's passion for food and caring for others started at a young age and
continued from early college while earning an AS degree in Culinary Arts
Management from FSCJ until now she uses her cooking skills and
knowledge of food to help her patients find creative ways to live on a renal
diet/lifestyle.
Secretary: Jen Ross, MSH, RD, LD/N
Jen is an Intuitive Eating Counselor with expertise in counseling, weight
management, insulin resistance, recipe modification, and maternal/infant nutrition.
Jen received her BA in Human Services from Elon College, and BSH and MSH in
Health Science/Nutrition from UNF. Jen is currently a practicing dietitian with
Preferred Nutrition Services and a nutrition instructor at UNF where she teaches
Food Fundamentals and Food Science. In her spare time, Jen enjoys biking,
reading and hanging out on the beach with her two boys.
Jen Ross
Member-at-Large: Kate Dienst, MSH, RD, LD/N
Kate is a Registered Dietitian working with Chartwells K-12 for Duval County
Public Schools. Kate graduated from the University of North Florida with her MSH
in nutrition in 2008. Since graduation, she has worked in weight management,
child nutrition, and as an adjunct instructor at UNF. Through her position with
Chartwells, Kate plays a major role in the nutrition received by K-12 students
across Duval County. In her free time, Kate enjoys reading, cooking, exercising,
shopping, and spending time with friends and family.
Member-at-Large: Katherine Margaritis, MS, RD
Katherine received her bachelor’s in science of health in 2010 from UNF,
and began working as a nutrition educator for WIC the same day as graduation.
In 2011, Katherine returned to complete the dietetic internship and master’s in
nutrition program from UNF, and is a new registered dietitian as of 2013.
Katherine loves cooking, volunteering, staying active, and art which she tries to
incorporate into her dietetic career.
Nominating Committee, Chair: Katelin Lier Bowater, MSH, RD, LDN
Katelin is a newly licensed dietitian who graduated in December of 2010 from the
University of North Florida were she completed her dietetic internship & masters in
the science of health. The weekend after graduation she started working at
Shands Jacksonville as a clinical dietitian. She has had the opportunity to work on
the medical/ surgical/ telemetry/ psych floors and to also be involved in
an outpatient cardiac rehab program. She is responsible for teaching classes
once a month and providing one-on-one counseling.
Katelin Bowater
Nominating Committee: Doretta Leung, MS, RD, LD/N
Doretta completed her master’s degree and dietetic internship at the
University of Florida in 2009. She started her career as an RD at Jacksonville
Baptist Medical Center Downtown. Following her interest in public health, Doretta
began working with the Duval County Health Department in 2010. Since 2011,
she has been working as the WIC Program Coordinator at the Clay County Health
Department. Doretta is closely involved with her community, and serves as a
member of the Clay County KIDS Council and Duval Site: Pasco County Dietetic
Internship Advisory Council.
Nominating Committee: Kerri Brown, MS, RD, LD/N
Kerri is a Medical Nutrition Specialist at Lincare Enteral Services. She
graduated with her master's degree in 2010 from the University of North Florida,
and has been employed by Lincare ever since. Kerri specializes in enteral
feedings and visits the patients in their home to educate them on their feeding
tubes. She also counsels them on a variety of needs including managing
intolerances, weight maintenance, and troubleshooting. In her spare
time, Kerri enjoys spending time with her husband on the beach.
Information Systems: Gina Ulery, MS, RD, LD/N
Gina is our webmaster, listserv moderator and also reports the credits from our
meetings to Florida's CE Broker. She earned her BS and MS in Health Science
from UNF and has served on the JDA board since 2006. Gina is the Director of
Operation & Marketing for Professional Development Resources, a local,
non-profit organization that offers JDA members 10% off online continuing
education courses (
www.pdresources.org/jda).
